Limey Mp3 Cozy

I was very pleased to get a mp3 player for Christmas as it’s something I’ve wanted for a long time.  Once I started using it I realise that I needed a better system for wearing it.  I got an idea in mind and was inspired to make this. Although it looks hard it’s really very easy and works up very fast!

This is of my own design although I did borrow an idea from THIS purse for the top part.

I’m offering this as a free pattern because I’d like some feed back on how to write patterns better.

To make this I used only a small amount of left over knit-cro-sheen.  Great project for using up those leftover balls.  Size 7 steel hook.  Gauge isn’t super important as it fits the player loosely so you can fit the cord in there as well.

ch 6, join with a sl st and ch 1

Row 1: sc ch 4, 8 times, ch 3, 4 dc, ch3  (8 sc ch lps, 4 dc)

Row 2:  sc ch 3 in each ch lp, ch 3 and 2 sc into the ch sp before the dc’s.  sc in each dc, 2 sc in the ch sp after the dc’s. ch 3 (8 sc, 8 ch sp)

Row 3: 5 dc in the nx ch sp, ch 1. 7 times. ch 3, 2 sc in the ch sp before sc group, sc in each sc, 2 sc in the ch lp after, ch 3. (6 shell groups, 12 sc)

Row 4: sc, ch 3 in the first dc, sk 2 dc, sc ch 3, sk 2 dc and sc in the ch 1 sp. continue this around until you reach the last ch sp, ch 3, 2 sc in the ch sp before the top section, sc in each across, 2 sc in the ch sp after, ch 3. (13 ch lps, 16 sc)

Row 5: sc ch 3 in the next ch lp and in each around until the last lp.  3 sc in the ch sp before top sc section, sc in each across, 3 sc in the ch sp after, ch 3. (12 ch lps, 22 sc)

Row 6: Repeat like Row 3, however there will be 13 shell groups, continue up to the last ch lp then: ch 3, 3 sc in ch sp before top section, sc in each across, 5 sc in ch sp after, ch 3. (10 shell groups, 30 sc)

Row 7: sk the first 2 dc, sc ch 3, sc in the ch 1 sp, sk 2, * sc ch 3, sk2* around until the last ch sp, 5 sc in the ch lp before, sl st into the first sc. fasten off.

Make two of the above, then to join them with wrong sides facing together fasten with a sl st to the upper most loop near the top sc section and sc ch 2, then sc ch 2 in the second piece. do this back and forth until you work it around do not fasten off.

Work sc around the top edge with 2 sc in each ch lp and 1 sc in each sc, continue this for 2 rows around, in the 3rd row decide where you would like your straps to be.  (I wanted mine a bit off center so that the cozy would lie flat on my chest or inward if I was going to be busy doing something)  place stitch markers in the area you would like your straps to be and then sc around, when you get to the stitch markers sc ch 2, sk 1 sc, then continue the sc around until the next stitch marker and sc ch 2, sk 1, continue the sc around for two more rows sl st and fasten off.

Straps: ch 2, sc into 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, turn, sc into sc* continue for the length you would like the straps.  Make two.

Attaching straps: with crochet hook pull the straps thru from the inside out and then tie the strap into a knot big enough to not pull thru. Do on the other side.

Weave in ends and you have a new cozy!

Love that limey bag and for a cool purpose too! well done I might be tempted to try it although I dont yet own a mp3 player. Perhaps it should have a bolder bottom edge rather like the top? I shall have a go
